Why Garfunkel & Oates Should Be Your New Favorite Band

By Cate Sevilla

A few weeks ago we rejoiced in discovering how sex with ducks and gay marriage are "one in the same" through the music of  Garfunkel & Oates. And now, I'm pleased to announce that I'm completely obsessed with Riki "Garfunkel" Lindhome and Kate "Oates" Micucci. Not in the scary stalker way, just the, eh, infactuated "let me be your BFF" sort of way...

Kate and Riki are both successful East-Coast grown actresses who you've probably seen on random TV shows and films such as Scrubs and Buffy. They also both just happen to be hilarious and talented musician and have joined forces to create the "comedy-folk duo" Garfunkel & Oates.

According to the ever-reliable Wikipedia, the band was formed when "the two met at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre in Los Angeles" and they started working together "to turn a short film made by Lindhome, entitled Imaginary Larry, into a musical." Sounds romantical, non?

One of their first songs "Fuck You" was used (and renamed to "Screw You") on an episode of Scrubs and if you look through their list of songs, I guarantee you you'll fall in love with them right away.

There's "Worst Song Medley" which is a, um, medley of all of the worst songs you can think of. (Think "Too Close" mashed up with "Breakfast at Tiffanys".)

Or how about "Pregnant Women Are Smug" which declares: "Pregnant are smug, everyone knows it, nobody says it because they're pregnant."

There's also the lovely "One Night Stand" which describes how a one night stand would go if Kate and Riki were "really cool".

I could go on and on and on and on. But I'll just let you go out and discover your new favorite songs from your new favorite band all on your own.
