Not so long ago, Christina Aguilera did a performance at an MTV awards show. Her fringe, haircut and style were pretty reminiscent of a smaller pop star called Lady Gaga. Perez Hilton, a rabid avid fan and friend of Lady Gaga’s pointed this out, and has been tracking the similiarites and now apparent rivalry for a over a year.
There have been similar photo shoots and outfits, and when brought to Christina Aguilera ‘s attention, her response was:
“You know, that’s funny that you mention that. This person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago. I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure. I really don’t spend any time on the Internet, so I guess I live a little under a rock in that respect.”
Great answer, Christina.
As time went on, and more similarities came to surface, Christina’s camp defended her saying that such allegations were “bullshit” and Chrstina herself has even said that she’s been around “for a decade” and the comparisons to Gaga are “not even worth wasting the breath to comment on”.
But she somehow managed to find enough breath to comment by stating: “I think my work speaks for myself.”
Oh, and does it ever, Christina.
The self proclaimed “modern day Vogue”, a catchy if not tired sounding overly-sexy pop song called “Not Myself Tonight”, had its video debut yesterday. There was heavy speculation around the teasers that were released for the video, some saying it looked very Gaga-esque. And others saying...well, the same thing.
But after its release, there is absolutely no denying that Christina Aguilera not only knows who Lady Gaga is, but that her video for “Not Myself Tonight” is just a copycat video for “Bad Romance”.
Perez Hilton has taken numerous screenshots comparing scenes from the “Not Myself Tonight” video and "Bad Romance", and it looks as if the director of NMT sat in his bedroom watching “Bad Romance” over and over again. The themes of bisexuality, fetishwear, latex, fire, chains, and even mobile phone and liquor product placement are all there.
For fuck sake, at one point they’re even wearing the same sunglasses.

Nothing smells worse than someone who has zero original ideas, and has to blatantly copy and rip-off someone else. But what is truly disgusting about this, is that Christina Aguilera has the audacity to put out this video, while claiming she doesn’t even have “the breath” to comment on the comparisions between her and Lady Gaga.
Does she think her fans are stupid?
As someone who, while growing up, paid to see Aguilera in concert and purchased her albums and the magazines she graced the covers of, I find this particularly foul. Aguilera is an incredible talent. Her last album wasn’t mind blowing, but at least her whole retro, pin-up look was original in pop music at the time.
But her over the top “omg bondage” and “omg bisexual” act and the blatant copycat nature of her look and video...it just reeks of desperation.
Lady Gaga must be laughing her ass off at the moment - if she’s even had the time to watch Christina’s video.

Yes, Christina, your work does speak for itself. It speaks loud and clear: YOU WANT TO BE LADY GAGA. So why don’t you just put on a hairbow and get yourself a pretty teacup to carry around and call it a fucking day.
Don’t try to fool us or act like because you’ve been around copying Britney Spears since 1990-whatever that the music industry and your fans won’t notice your bullshit.
I’m incredibly curious to see, after comparisons like Perez Hilton’s, and after the entire Internet and soon print publications and TV programs, what Miss “My Work Speaks for Itself” will do or say.
How is she going to go on TV and promote her new “work” and video and singles when all anyone is going to ask her is exactly how many times she sat down and watched “Bad Romance” before filming “Not Myself Tonight”.
My guess is that she'll claim to have never seen the "Bad Romance" video and that it was her director or creative team who are to blame. Maybe she'll even claim to be "deeply embarrassed" that this happened, apologize to her fans, and then "fire" whoever is to "blame".
Oh Christina, didn’t you ever learn hear that saying, “Oh what tangled webs we weave when first we practice to deceive?”
I feel a trip to Promises for “exhaustion” coming on...
