Sweet Music with Paloma Faith and Converse

By Warren Beckett

If you like music, and shoes (I’m guessing you do) then Paloma Faith and Converse are about to blow your mind.

The UK music scene is probably a little better than it should be given the size of the country, but we have a long history of great recording artists who are appreciated all over the world. The Beatles pretty much invented pop music and in that tradition British music stars of today are constantly striving to push the boundaries and reinvent genres. The good folk over at Converse have decided to celebrate this with project that has brought Paloma Faith, Graham Coxon from Blur and Bill Ryder-Jones from The Coral together  to make a little something for us.

The track is called Desire and if part of a year-long connectivity campaign celebrating the UK music scene.  Coxon and Rider-Jones bring the serious folk and rock credentials to the table and Paloma Faith adds all the glorious pop shimmer and soulful vocals you can handle on top. The genius is that you’d never normally get to hear what three such diverse talents like these would come up with when working together. Kind of like a fantasy dinner party…but with musicians. Talking about the project Paloma said “Entering the studio is always a new and different experience and being able to work with such amazing artists as Graham, whom I have long respected, and Bill who is a huge talent, made this an opportunity I couldn’t wait to jump at.  The end result is a piece of music which reflects the genuine excitement we had while creating the track and showcases the individual touches that we each contributed towards the single.”

I don’t know about you but I believe that I’ve probably owned Converse in every single possible colour at some point in my life. There’s a simplicity to the design of the shoe which leaves enough room to customise and make them your own, that make converse the perfect shoe for anyone who likes to create. Collaboration can often be the key to creativity, and Converse’s commitment to celebrating the link between music and fashion is a perfect example of that.  Sound good? Well you can download it for free here at the Converse website. Free music!…you got nothing to lose.

The fun doesn’t stop there though, Converse are looking to encourage our creativity so there’s an amazing multimedia video piece to accompany the track, which you can be a part of.  It’s a modern day film noir, combining both film and animation. Using Facebook the video fuses together innovation and interactivity to pull you into the world of Desire, alongside Paloma, Graham and Bill. Facebook Connect allows you to ‘meet’ the musicians and you can also invite your friends to star alongside you. That’s if you want to share the limelight! This is probably the most fun you can have on your own, without breaking any laws, so check it out here if you fancy turning the Paloma, Graham and Bill threesome into a foursome…
