Real Life Geek Guys We'd Love to Date

By Kate Kotler

Last week we published our top five list of fictional geek guys we'd like to date.  And, while all the gents on that list are a geek girl's fantasy, it got us thinking about the awesome real life geek guys that also make our hearts go all a-flutter.  So here is our list of REAL (as in we've met some of them) geek guys we'd like to date.

Adam Savage, Co-host of Mythbusters

Okay, granted he does have an issue with sea sickness.  This aside, Adam Savage is an old skool geek who has one of the best jobs on the planet.  He gets to scientifically prove myths either true or BUSTED.  Aside from his role in Mythbusters, Savage has at various times designed and made toys, worked as a projectionist, worked in special-effects and acted in a Charmin advertisement as Mr. Whipple's stock boy.  He is a jack of all trades and is simply awesome.

Neil Gaiman , Writer

One word should describe why Neil Gaiman is on this list: Sandman.  Gaiman, aside from being smoking hot, is only one of the most renowned science fiction writers of the 20 and 21st centuries.  His work speaks for it's self; but, what also makes him exceptionally geeky is that his first published book was a biography of the band Duran Duran.  (It should be noted that the author of this piece owns that book in addition to the complete Sandman.  But, she's a geek and we all know it.)

Bre Pettis, Host of Make Magazine's Weekend Projects

Maker of stuff, founder of a hacker collective in New York City and lover of cupcakes.  Bre Pettis has it all going on in the geek world.  In addition he has a cool name and dorky glasses that are sure to make any true geek-o-phile swoon.

Jeremy Stoppleman, Co-Founder/CEO of Yelp.com

The bad boy of the Sillicon Valley is not only a hottie, but he's a super smart whiz kid nerd type guy. Graduated from the University of Illinois, went to Harvard Business School, was a primary at Ebay and then founded his own (very successful) user generated review website with his friend Russell Simmons at the age of 28 - making him one of the youngest CEOs of a social networking property.  Not to mention, Jeremy is an all around nice guy and has an awesome dog named Darwin.

 Michael Showalter, Actor/Comedian

The Baxter proved to the world what savvy geeks already knew: Michael Showalter is a big 'ole funny geek.  And, we like him like that.  From the The State to Stella to The Michael Showalter Showalter, this actor/comedian has been bringing his geeky brand of humor to the masses for years.  Plus, he's got that tall, lanky, somewhat dorky look.  Wears brown pants with Chuck Taylor kicks (remind you of a fictional geek we'd like to date?)  And he has weird sticky up hair.  Basically, he's a geek girl's dream guy.

So there they are, the top five real life geeks we'd love to date.  Did we forget someone?  Let us know  so we can include them in our next article!

John Oliver/Stephen Colbert - They're funny and wear glasses, whats not to love!

Brian Michael Bendis - Love his comics, wasn't particularly interested until I saw his talk at the Bristol comic con - he's so lovely!

Why scary, Anon? From what I understand they're all pretty awesome guys... (I've met two of them, too - I won't say which ones.)

Side note, I'm going to see Stella perform at the SF Sketchfest tonight. Mmmmm.... Michael Showalter.
