Geek is the new cool. So it makes sense to be a geek these days possesses a certain fetish cache for those who are non-geek. To clarify: "female normals" (what we geek girls call those of you who are not) around the world are discovering what we have known all along, geek guys are f-ing HAWT, yo! This is why you see so many startup code geeks and/or CEO's dating really hot model type people.
To be frank, we geek girls kind of wish you "female normals" had never discovered this. It's kind of akin to your favorite hole in the wall bar or restaurant suddenly becoming really popular because it was reviewed a lot on Yelp or some famous person like a food critic or a rock star talked about how much they love the joint in an article in some trendy and glossy magazine. Though, eventually you have to just deal with the fact that the gig is up and people know, so what's the use in denying what is true?
Based on our last article about RL geeks we'd love to date we received a bunch of suggestions via email and comment for our "next list" of these yummy and nerdcore guys. So here they are, the next five RL geek guys we (and, you) would love to date:
1. Keith Olbermann, Host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann
Political passion is one of the most intoxicating things in the universe. Keith Olbermann while a quirky, tall, bespectacled Harry Potter loving television commentator didn't really hit his geek-cred stride until August 30, 2006 when he issued the very first "Special Comment" in which he blasted Rumsfeld for calling those who questioned the Bush Administration disloyal and unpatriotic in a speech to the American Legion.
From there it was all downhill geeky political dissent goodness (Michael Jackson puppet theater, "Bushed" and The Worst Person in The World) until November 4, 2008 when Olbermann announced the 44th President of the United States to throngs of cheering MSNBC viewers. Granted, Olbermann has been accused of being a little smug and over zealous; but, Keith you know you're awesome when the dudes over at SNL parody you. Though, one does have to wonder what he will rant about now that we have a Democrat in the White House... ? Whatever it is, you know we'll be watching.
2. Jonathan Coulton, Musician
The song Code Monkey alone qualifies Coulton for this list. An adorable, bespectacled former computer programmer and "self-described geek," Coulton's songs range in topic from technology to science fiction to the dangers of bacteria. Apparently, Coulton also thinks in "simian terms." That's even so geeky that we don't know what it means beyond having something to do with monkeys. Not to mention he apparently got Neil Gaimen up on stage with him at a recent appearance in the UK. Now, that's geek cred right there.
3. Wil Wheaton, Former science fiction icon/writer/improv comedian and professional poker player
We have two words for you: Wesley Crusher. Every geek girl of a particular age fantasized about dating Wesley Crusher (played by Wheaton) from Star Trek: Next Generation. You know you did. It's heartening to know that as an adult Wheaton has not only remained smokin' hot geek style; but, has also broadened his geek pursuits to include blogging, professional poker playing and improv comedy. All geeky pursuits of the first caliber. Sadly girls, he's happily married. But, we can dream, can't we?
4. John Oliver, Comedian/Correspondent for the Daily Show
Born in England, Great Britain in the 1977, the year of the punk, John Oliver has a dry sarcastic humor which his country men are known for. Plus, he is frenetic and spastic and really f-ing weird. And, he wears glasses and has floopy hair. He's just divine, really. Watch his report on the CNN Magic Wall Conspiracy for proof positive that he belongs on this list.
5. Eugene Mirman, Comedian
His middle name is Boris and he is the world's foremost Eugene-named entertainer. He once played a "spokes-potato." The Onion voted his comedy album the "Best Album of 2004." He hangs out with the likes of Michael Showalter, David Wain and The Flight of the Conchords. He is tall and bizarre and has a self-help book coming out this year titled "The Will to Whatevs." He is pants peeing funny (the author of this piece just saw his standup at SF Sketchfest) and kind of dreamy in that totally neurotic, yet somewhat dark and oddly self-assured geek guy from Massachusetts way. We <3 him.
