Lilith Fair 2010: A True Showcase of Female Talent

By Cate Sevilla

If you were a fan of Melissa Ehtridge, the Indigo Sisters, and Sara McLachlan in the mid ‘90s, chances are, you attended Lilith Fair.

Back in 1996, McLachlan apparently became “frustrated with concert promoters and radio stations that refused to feature two female musicians in a row” and decided to do something about it. McLachlan and Paula Cole went on tour together, and one of their bigger shows was called Lilith Fair, and featured other female artists such as Lisa Loeb and Michelle McAdorey.

Named after the medieval Jewish legend claiming Lilith was Adam’s first wife, Lilith Fair reigned supreme from 1997 to 1999, becoming one of the highest grossing touring festivals in the world. With over 1.5 million attendees, and raising over $10million for local and national charities, Lilith Fair’s all female line up obviously seems to have worked.

Now, over  ten years after it’s last run, Lilith Fair is back.

Their lineup is slowly but surely growing, and I’m curious to see who will be on the final roster, as they currently already have some amazing acts confirmed, such as:

- Courtyard Hounds (the Dixie Chicks minus one)

- Kelly Clarkson

- Belinda Carlile

- The Gossip

- The Bangles

- Sugarland

- Cat Power

- Emmy Lou Harris

- Heart

With quite a hefty tour schedule, there are still more dates to come. It’s doubtful that Lilith Fair will head overseas, but I have my fingers crossed.

I believe designer handbags are a woman’s best friend that can never let her down. They work each time when it comes to capturing the attention of people and stealing the show. It’s a great way to get noticed.
