As I’m sure you may have heard, the London Fashion Week kicks off today at its new location in Somerset House, marking LFW’s 25th anniversary. (Maybe we’ll all be treated to Happy Birthday LFW salads, brought to you by Mercedes Benz in the press area.)
London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2010 sees the return of Matthew Williamson and Anna Wintour back to London, plus the addition of many a fashion blogger who, up until now, wouldn’t be allowed to set their perfectly manicured toes into LFW as “press”.
This will be interesting for many reasons, and as this is my personal first London Fashion Week, I’m curious to see how the addition of bloggers and web editors alike to the exhibition and catwalk shows as press will affect LFW. If, that is, it changes anything at all. We’ll see.
Aside from the shows that everyone is currently creaming themselves in excitement over, there are plenty of presentations and events going on outside of the tents.
Take for example on Saturday, just down the road from Somerset House will be Covent Garden’s Fashion Fête,in conjunction with Models 1 and SuperSuper magazine, that promises to showcase “traditional British fête activities with a fashion twist”. A twist you say?
I’m told that SuperSuper magazine will be offering styling advice, and give Fashion Fête goers a chance to be snapped for their website or magazine.(OooOoo!)
There will be a contest for best dressed dog, which will either cause you to squeal with glee, or anger you to your very core if you’re not a fan of animals dressed in clothing. (Personally I am, so I cannot wait to see which dog wins “Best Outfit”!)
The Vintage Patisserie will be there with their vintage crockery and fabulous ‘20s get-up, as well as a the Anna Wintour Fan Booth, which allows Fête visitors to don the famous wig and glasses and have their picture taken in the booth. (How awesome is that?)
But, perhaps the most awesome part of the evening will the Celebrity Cupcake Competition, taking place at 4pm, in which I will join a mystery Celebrity Baker in judging who has decorated the best cupcake.
Oh yes.
Crumbs and Doilies will be providing undecorated cupcakes, you Fête cupcake fans will DECORATE TO THE DEATH to discover who has the most fashionable cupcake at LFW.
Aside from everything I named above, there are tons and tons of things going on at the Covent Garden Fashion Fête.
Running alongside Fashion Fête, from Thursday 17th – Tuesday 22nd September, there will be in-store discounts and gifts with purchase from some of Covent Garden’s most fashionable retailers including Karen Millen, Warehouse, LK Bennett, French Connection and Original Penguin, along with an opportunity to win thousands of pounds worth of designer goodies.
So, whether or not you have tickets for LFW, you can still join in on all the fashionista fun at the Covent Garden Fashion Fête on Saturday afternoon, from 11am to 6pm!
