Within the next year we're going to have a small flurry of celebrities and people-that-feel-they-should-be celebrities putting their name behind some big brands. But will it beat the collaboration of Snoop Dogg and TomTom last year?
In Spring we'll have Diane Kruger of Inglorious Basterds fame joining the pouting ranks of L'Oreal airbrushing, and Eva Longoria Parker's creating a perfume called 'Eva'. A bit traditional in the celeb-makes-perfume sense, where they point at a few smells in a factory, and publicly advocate it rather than wear it, but this is a slightly more interesting one.
“I have always been somewhat allergic to all perfumes and really wanted to create something that every woman could wear,” said Longoria Parker.
Aha! An anti-itch perfume for sensitive skin - which beats Jordan's (or nearest, loudest celebrity's) scent release on more than just style. On the other hand the scent is "light, fresh and unique" which, sounding like every single perfume in existence, ruins the unique spin slightly.
Julia Roberts became Lancôme's international spokesperson, which will no doubt see her speak in some form internationally in 2010, and Dutch supermodel Lara Stone sounding a bit like Only the Fools and Horses crew will also be flogging 'luxury leather goods' - with contextual glamour redeemed amongst some traditional posing in a field for Louis Vuitton too.
Less traditionally, Lady Gaga's joining Polaroid, as she Twitpic'd a Polaroid business card recently, as seh is now the company's new 'Creative Director (of shiny hats and pompoms) and Inventor of Speciality Products' (bubble dressses). A grand title, which she's rather excited about. So, does this work in the celeb-at-the-perfume-factory sense, or will she actually be doing something?
Polaroid's done well for itself, although with their old rejected Polaroid product recently relaunched by The Impossible Project getting Gaga into the Polaroid ranks isn't going to do any harm as far as I can see. Hell, the world seems to love her with insatiable curiosity of her woman-penis, and even the Queen didn't tell her to change that bloody ridiculous outfit, although I'm curious as to whether retro Polaroid lovers and Gaga groupies comes from the sound group of consumer. Is it a match made in heaven? (Suspect answer to this is: probably).
Her title might sound like silly nonsense, but this all sounds quite fantastic as she might be taking active role (horray!) with mentions of 'partnership' and working as a spokesperson for her new speciality line.
"I am so proud to announce my new partnership with Polaroid as the creative director and inventor of speciality projects," said the pop star. "The Haus of Gaga has been developing prototypes in the vein of fashion/technology/photography innovation, blending the iconic history of Polaroid and instant film with the digital era. Lifestyle, music, art, fashion: I am so excited to extend myself behind the scenes as a designer, and as my father puts it, finally have a real job."
It all sounds quite fun, and the results of quite whatever she'll be doing will hit the shelves in late 2010. Gaga Cam for Christmas anyone?
