Going to classes can be really boring. Like, really boring. Classes that you have to pay for are even worse. However, there are some classes out there that are much more interactive. Classes that you actually learn something for, are affordable, and totally worth the time and money you’ve spent there.
London is a city that is quite keen on education and growing and practicing your craft. From classes at museums, to educational “walks” – never before have I lived or worked in a city that is so passionate about learning and understanding.
However, learning doesn’t always have to take place in a museum, and you don’t always have to be learning about history or science or pay out the ying-yang for the privilege of being savvy at something you're interested in.
Some of our favourite workshops in London have nothing to do with the history of a building or health and safety - which are, in our opinion, the worst classes ever. If you’re looking some fun, reasonably priced workshops to help you “grow” as a person, photographer, or blogger – I know just the place(s)!
Live Better
Our lovely Lori Smith recently reviewed the “Love Your Job” class at The School of Life, and absolutely loved it. The School of Life have a variety of classes, weekend workshops and Sunday sermons and even a Breakfast Club where they cover subjects like love, friendship, creativity, money, reading, conversation and even death.
You can learn more about their classes on The School of Life website, and also give them a follow on Twitter as @TheSchoolofLife. Their prices are also very reasonable, with your average ticket costing £30.
Craft Better
If you’re a crafter and you’ve not been to The Make Lounge in London, you should be ashamed of yourself. The Make Lounge offers everything from workshops on how to make knickers, cushions, aprons, and clothes! They also offer events, such as workshops to do during your hen do, which are extremely popular. Our own Alexandra Roumbas Goldstein made a cushion and corsage at The Make Lounge, and said of her workshop that it was “a lovely, socialble evening” and that it’s of “excellent value”. Workshops at The Make Lounge range anywhere from £38 - £47, and for the skills you take away from your workshop, the price is well worth it.

Lomo Better
Getting used to a lomo camera can be sort-of tough. If you’ve not gone analog since the early ‘90s, and have never taken a basic photography course or used a manual camera (never mind developing your own film) taking fantatic photos using a lomo camera can be a wee bit difficult.
Thankfully, every Lomo Fan’s favourite shop in London, The Lomography Gallery Store on Newburgh Street, holds monthly and weekend workshops for you to fine-tune your skills. Their next workshop is in September, and tickets are only £15.
You can find more information on the Lomography Gallery London Facebook page, or follow them on Twitter as @ lomographyuk.
Blog Better
The Oh My Blog Workshop, which is a series of blogging workshops in London, was just launched this week by, well, me. The Oh My Blog Workshop aims to help “make you blog better, from the inside out”, and our goal is to help everyone from professional bloggers to hobby bloggers improve not only their content, but their photos, SEO, and everything else in between. (Our goal is also help break down what the hell things like SEO mean and actually are.)
The first Oh My Blog Workshop, “Stellar Content and the Dark Side of Blogging” is on September 23rd at TechHub, and will last from 19:00 until 20:45. The workshop will be lead by me, Cate Sevilla, and will also feature the fabulous Natalie Lue from Baggage Reclaim.
Tickets are £15, and we’ll provide drinks, nibbles, and lively, savvy conversation.
