Through Twitter, the world has now been privy to the first few behind-the-scenes photographs from the filming of the adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Logan Lerman has been cast as lead character Charlie, and went nuts Tweeting various shots of his fellow cast members on set yesterday, including a super-cute photo of Emma Watson reading a copy of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Watson has been cast as Charlie's friend Sam, step-sister of his new friend Patrick, who, along with her brother, introduces Charlie in to a liberal world of partying, sex, and drugs.
The (rather exciting) adaptation started filming in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in May 2011, and is packed with a hefty group of star power, including - aside from Watson and Lerman - Paul Rudd as Charlie's English teacher, Kate Walsh as his mother, and Dylan McDermott as father.
John Malkocivh is a producer of the film, and interestingly the author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky, has been hired to both direct and adapt the screenplay. Although Chbosky is a screenwriter and wrote the film adaptation for the Broadway musical Rent, and was the co-creator, executive producer and writer for the television show Jericho, it's a rare thing for the person who wrote the book to also then write the screenplay - never mind directing the film.
I'll be very interested to see how this turns out!
