While they're mostly associated with small children and babies, puppets are actually quite popular amongst grown-ups. (My personal favourite are sock puppets. HILARIOUS.)
From Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, to The Muppets, on-screen puppets can be as entertaining as they are cuddly, if not down right hilarious. Mel Gibson's new movie The Beaver stars a puppet, and while the title may be a bit, um questionable - as are Mel Gibson's views on a lot of things - there's clearly something about "talking" creatures with a hand up their back-side that people just adore.
LOVEFiLM asked 1,000 film fans to name their favourite on-screen puppet, and Yoda from Star Wars won. Yup, that tiny, green, wrinkly Jedi Master is everyone's favourite puppet, and interestingly, Team America’s Kim Jong II came in second with 18 per cent of the votes. Coming in third place was Kermit the Frog, and while I do love Yoda, how can Kim Jong II possibly be more loved than Kermit?! He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, FFS!
Gremlins star Spike earned 7% of the votes, bringing him in at number five, and Elmo came in sixth which, really, I can understand as he is quite annoying...
Puppets that should have been on the list, even if they're not all in films are Miss Piggy, and the cast of Avenue Q! Any other puppet favourites?
