Justin Timberlake has somehow managed to gracefully transition from a gyrating, bleach-haired pop star to a fantastic comedic actor. He’s great on SNL, and after his superb portrayal of Sean Parker in The Social Network, he had his first leading role opposite Mila Kunis in Friends with Benefits.
Now, Justin is about to show us what his acting skills are really about in the new sci-fi action flick In Time with Amanda Seyfried and her brunette, bobbed wig.
In In Time, time is the new currency, and the rich can live forever and stop aging at 25, while the, er, not-so-rich have to work and negotiate for more of it. Fun. Justin Timberlake’s character Will comes in to a fortune of time and then has some bad guys called Time Keepers coming after him, so presumably he spends the entire film running from them, only to then at the last minute outsmart them and live happily ever after with Seyfried's character, Sylvia. Just a wild guess.
They say that comedy is harder to play than drama, but I’m really wondering about Timberlake’s ability to be... serious. Other comedians such as Jim Carey have proved that they can play the dark just as well as they can the light, but can Timberlake pull it off?
I’m not convinced from what I’ve seen in the clips above. Sure he can jump off a staircase with ease and pull off a Bonde-esque brand of suave, but is that going to be enough to carry an entire film?
