BitchBuzz's Man of the Moment: Jon Stewart

By Cate Sevilla

Trying to find a reliable news source can be an extremely daunting, if not depressing task. You might try Fox News and find it too conservative, CNN too liberal and BBC too boring. You may turn to different blogs and find them either too snarky or too angry, and where does that leave you? I'll tell you where it leaves you: in a huddled mass of misinformation and anger. And perhaps a pool of your own saliva.

Where does one go when all they want is the truth? When all they want is media outlet that is as entertaining as it is thoughtful; that makes fun of liberals and conservatives when they deserve to be made fun of. A news source that doesn't take itself too seriously, and doesn't treat their audience like they're a bunch of buffoons.

I'll tell you where to go, my friend: to the open arms of Jon Stewart and The Daily Show.

And that is why Jon Stewart is BitchBuzz's Man of the Moment.

Jon Stewart has proved to be a magnificent light at the end of the bullshit tunnel during both the '08 Presidential Election (Indecision '08) but the US financial crisis. And we're obviously not the only ones who think so, as Stewart's ratings went up to 1.9 million viewers each night, the week of September 15.

Perhaps as a direct result of all of us who either do not reside in the USA, do not have cable, or can't stay up long enough to watch The Daily Show every night, The Daily Show's website ratings went up to 850,000 hits a day during that same week.

Stewart and the whole Daily Show crew, as well as Stephen Colbert at The Colbert Report, mock Obama and McCain and Palin and Biden (albeit they mock Sarah just a weeeee bit more because, well, there's more to mock) and anyone else that deserves, it on a regular basis.

Take this clip, for example, where Jon Stewart highlights the ridiculous hypocrisy of many conservative, right wing news anchors.

That video has been viewed roughly 4.2 million times, and stands as a testament to the sort of news that people are really looking for. (You know, the kind of news that uses words like "dough head".)

If we could get more people watching Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert every night instead of Sean Hannity & Alan Colmes, I think that the knowledge and political attitude of people in the US would change greatly.

I mean, who else has the balls to talk to huge political players, such as Tony Blair and Bill Clinton, like this?

Jon Stewart, you are a man among men.

NAILED IT!
