While I usually don’t get all that excited about calendars, the 18th edition of the iconic Lavazza calendar is actually pretty damn cool.
Shot by British photographer Miles Aldridge, the images that were created for this calendar are absolutely stunning. And really, why shouldn’t a calendar you have up in your home be a piece of art? Sure, a paper calendar isn’t as exciting as an Advent Calendar filled with cheap, waxy chocolate – but it sure as hell looks better.
Using florescent colors to create a sense of “futuristic glamor”, the calendar celebrates the theme of The Italian Espresso Experience’ through Italian music, using fabulous images of six women.
The 2010 Calendar, features six of the world’s most famous models, was inspiration by six different well known Italian songs, such as “Nessun Dorma” – which I’m sure you’ve probably never heard of.
The songs have then been brought to life through Aldridge’s retro inspired images, and what I love about this calendar is how Aldridge explains that the female protagonists in these images were “heroines” and “full of character”:
“I didn’t just want six ravishing beauties. I wanted six women that were larger than life in their different ways. I like Lavazza’s idea of asking an international artist rather than an Italian to talk about Italianess.
“It gives us another outlook, another viewpoint, another perspective we might not have considered.”
The six “larger than life” models Aldridge decided to use are: Bianca Balti, Georgia Frost, Lydia Hearst, Daisy Lowe, Alexandra Tomlinson and Alek Alexeyeva. Some of these names might sound familiar, some won’t. But regardless if you recognize these famous faces or even the Italian songs, there’s no denying how fabulous the imagery is.
